Meet Shamaira Mbabazi, a bright 6-year-old born on January 13, 2019. Shamaira lives with her young mother on the shores of Lake Victoria, at a landing site called Senyi. Her mother has been her sole provider ever since Shamaira’s father abandoned them just a month into her pregnancy. Despite the challenges of carrying and raising Shamaira alone, her mother worked tirelessly to provide for her, running a small business selling silver fish. Unfortunately, a recent government ban on silver fish harvesting has left Shamaira’s mother without a source of income, making it impossible for her to afford school fees. Shamaira dreams of going to school to learn, play dodgeball with friends, and work towards her goal of becoming a policewoman.
