Why build a well?
In the Namavundu village, residents must walk a mile to access water, a daily necessity for various tasks such as bathing, washing dishes, and drinking. Typically, it's the children who undertake this expedition, which often results in them arriving late to school since they usually procure water in the mornings.
703 million people in the world live without clean water. That’s nearly 1 in 10 people worldwide.
Nearly 1 in 5 people across Uganda faces severe water shortages and half must walk more than 30 minutes to reach a protected water source.
The majority live in isolated rural areas and spend hours every day walking to collect water for their family. Not only does walking for water keep children out of school or take up time that parents could be using to earn money, but the water often carries diseases that can make everyone sick.
